{"id":18334,"date":"2018-05-14T18:19:24","date_gmt":"2018-05-14T16:19:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southafricatoday.net\/sport\/?p=18334"},"modified":"2018-05-14T18:19:24","modified_gmt":"2018-05-14T16:19:24","slug":"fnb-magalies-monster-celebrates-16th-anniversary-with-upgraded-routes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southafricatoday.net\/sport\/cycling\/fnb-magalies-monster-celebrates-16th-anniversary-with-upgraded-routes\/","title":{"rendered":"FNB Magalies Monster celebrates 16th anniversary with upgraded routes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>North West Province \u2013<\/em><\/strong> The 16<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary of the North West Province\u2019s most revered single day mountain bike (MTB) race, the FNB Magalies Monster MTB Classic, will treat MTB enthusiast of all levels (novice to elite)to an experience like no other.<\/p>\n<p>Taking place at the ATKV Buffelspoort on Saturday, 02 June 2018 entrants can choose between a 15km Fun Ride, the 35km \u201cHalf Monster\u201d and the 70km \u201cUltimate Monster (which includes the infamous 6km Monster Climb)\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis event is ideal for all mountain bikers,\u201d says Harry Schubert, Course Designer FNB Magalies Monster MTB Classic.\u00a0 \u201cLast year the Fun Ride was slightly longer.\u00a0 This year we\u2019ve taken out a section that passes through a citrus plantation.\u00a0 We\u2019ve also taken out a section near the start and finish.\u00a0 The shorter route is sure to be more attractive to newcomers and less experienced riders.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe \u2018Half Monster\u2019 and \u2018Ultimate Monster\u2019 will not share the steep technical ascent up to the plateau from the Buffelspoort Valley or the tricky descent towards the finish at ATKV,\u201d confirms Schubert.\u00a0 \u201cOnce the two routes have split, the 35km route will head up towards the top of the plateau on a steep single track climb.\u00a0 \u00a0After a scenic stretch on top of the plateau the route will drop down a newly designed, exhilarating single trail heading towards the water point near the tar road across from the dam entrance.
