{"id":18159,"date":"2018-05-08T19:47:31","date_gmt":"2018-05-08T17:47:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southafricatoday.net\/sport\/?p=18159"},"modified":"2018-05-08T19:47:31","modified_gmt":"2018-05-08T17:47:31","slug":"spca-supported-by-parkrun-paddy-at-fnb-cape-town-12-onerun","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southafricatoday.net\/sport\/press-release\/spca-supported-by-parkrun-paddy-at-fnb-cape-town-12-onerun\/","title":{"rendered":"SPCA supported by parkrun Paddy at FNB Cape Town 12 ONERUN"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Sunday, 20 May 2018 parkrun Paddy will rally in support of the SPCA at the 4<sup>th<\/sup> annual FNB Cape Town 12 ONERUN.<\/p>\n<p>An 11 year old Jack Russel Terrier from Table View, Paddy was treated like a celebrity at his first FNB Cape Town 12 ONERUN in 2016.<\/p>\n<p>According to Paddy\u2019s Guardian, Mary Langebrink, she and her friends are passionate animal supporters.\u00a0 \u201cIn 2016 a group of us painted our faces with whiskers (like cats and dogs) and wore SPCA arm warmers and pinned posters to our backs to raise awareness for SPCA\u2019s anti dog fighting campaign.\u00a0\u00a0 Because we were running for SPCA, we thought that it would be fun to let Paddy wear a SPCA bandana in support of the cause.\u00a0 During this run Paddy was treated like a celebrity, and was stopped on numerous occasions so that people could take photos of him or selfies with him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe participated in this race again in 2017 and was once again a hit,\u201d continues Langebrink.\u00a0 \u201cIt was whilst participating last year that my friend Trudy Clayden (now Paddy\u2019s Social Media Officer) and I hatched a plan that in 2018 we would create social media accounts for Paddy to raise funds for SPCA.\u00a0 We decided to take advantage of Paddy\u2019s \u2018celebrity status\u2019 and let it help a good cause!\u00a0 The FNB Cape Town 12 ONERUN is one of those \u2018not to be missed\u2019 races.\u00a0 It is by far the most fun race on the Cape Town athletics calendar.<strong>\u201d<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To find out more about Paddy and his cause follow him on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/parkrunPaddy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Instagram<\/a> and\/or <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/parkrunpaddy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Twitter<\/a> @parkrunpaddy\u00a0 To contribute towards Paddy\u2019s cause visit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.givengain.com\/activist\/214473\/projects\/16614\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>CLICK HERE<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt means a lot to our organisation that Mary and Paddy have decided to make their race count for more, by creating awareness and raising funds for the many animals in our care,\u201d says Natasha Johannes, Cape of Good Hope SPCA Fundraising Officer.\u00a0 \u201cThe Cape of Good Hope SPCA will celebrate its 146<sup>th<\/sup> birthday on the same day as the race.\u00a0 This makes Paddy and Mary\u2019s campaign extra special.\u00a0 Their goal is to raise R5000.\u00a0 This will assist us in caring for over 100 abandoned, rescued, impounded, stray and\/or seized cats and dogs.
