{"id":17369,"date":"2018-04-11T18:32:22","date_gmt":"2018-04-11T16:32:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southafricatoday.net\/sport\/?p=17369"},"modified":"2018-04-11T18:32:22","modified_gmt":"2018-04-11T16:32:22","slug":"teachers-take-on-africanx-for-charity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southafricatoday.net\/sport\/press-release\/teachers-take-on-africanx-for-charity\/","title":{"rendered":"Teachers take on AfricanX for Charity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Leandri Jansen van Rensburg and Stefan Sharp, two teachers from De Hoop Primary School in Somerset West, will take on the Western Cape\u2019s premier three day stage trail run, the AfricanX Trailrun presented by ASICS the weekend of 27 \u2013 29 April 2018 in support of \u2018Home of Hope\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>A registered non-profit organisation, <strong>Home of Hope<\/strong> cares for and educates abused and abandoned children in South Africa with a special focus on those affected by Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD).\u00a0 FASD is an umbrella term for a range of permanent physical and neurological disorders caused by pre-natal exposure to alcohol.<\/p>\n<p>Both Jansen van Rensburg and Sharp will make their AfricanX debut this year when they run in the colours of Big Box Containers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe both like a challenge,\u201d admits Jansen van Rensburg.\u00a0 \u201cWe\u2019ve only heard good stories about AfricanX and felt that the event would give us the ideal opportunity to test our trail running abilities and push our limits.\u00a0 We are grateful to Big Box for the team entry.\u00a0 It will be an honour to run in their colours.\u00a0 As our entry was a gift, we also wanted to touch someone else\u2019s life so we decided to run in support of Home of Hope.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to Sharp, running for a charity is a great opportunity to \u2018pay it forward\u2019.\u00a0 \u201cLeandri and I work with children on a daily basis.\u00a0 It means a lot to us to be able to support Home of Hope, an organisation that tries to improve the livelihoods of children.\u00a0 We are looking forward to both the mental and physical challenge.\u00a0 We love adventures and that is how we view AfricanX.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHome of Hope feels very privileged to have Leandri and Stefan acting as champions for our children,\u201d says Hayley Gimingham, Home of Hope Representative.\u00a0 \u201cTheir support will not only hopefully bring in some funds, but it will also give us some much needed exposure.\u00a0 There are many deserving charities that Leandri and Stefan could have chosen to support, but they chose us and for this we are truly grateful. We have been involved with various projects where shipping containers are used as classrooms.
