{"id":16466,"date":"2018-02-25T11:13:31","date_gmt":"2018-02-25T09:13:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southafricatoday.net\/sport\/?p=16466"},"modified":"2018-02-25T11:13:31","modified_gmt":"2018-02-25T09:13:31","slug":"weiss-takes-back-fedhealth-xterra-sa-title","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southafricatoday.net\/sport\/press-release\/weiss-takes-back-fedhealth-xterra-sa-title\/","title":{"rendered":"Weiss takes back Fedhealth XTERRA SA Title"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>XERRA World Champion Bradley Weiss started his year off with a bang claiming gold at the Fedhealth XTERRA South African Championship in Elgin-Grabouw today (Saturday, 24 February 2018) in an impressive time of 02 hours 28 minutes 55 seconds.<\/p>\n<p>Weiss lost the XTERRA SA title to Olympian Richard Murray in 2017 after suffering a double puncture during the MTB discipline.\u00a0 \u201cThe Fedhealth XTERRA Grabouw is my favorite race of the year,\u201d admits Weiss.\u00a0 \u201cBefore the start of the swim I heard an announcement about an athlete who had gone to the Common Wealth Games and was racing today.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t know what to expect.\u00a0 I exited the water in third place, but managed to close the gap by the time that we\u2019d reached the first big climb on the mountain bike discipline.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnce I was back in the lead I just settled into my own rhythm,\u201d continues Weiss.\u00a0 \u201cMy lead kept building.\u00a0 I just focused on executing a good race.\u00a0 To win on home soil is very special.\u00a0 I would like to thank Fedhealth and Stillwater Sports for putting on an incredible show.\u201d\u00a0 Michael Lord came in second, while Brice Daubord (France) finished third.<\/p>\n<p>Carina Wasle (Austria) claimed her third Fedhealth XTERRA SA title in a deserving time of 02 hours 51 minutes 43 seconds.\u00a0 \u201cI had a very good race,\u201d says Wasle. \u201cI always start a race with the goal to win.\u00a0 My swim was perfect.\u00a0 I was first on the bike and just kept my lead.\u00a0 I am very happy to win today.\u201d\u00a0 Hayley Preen came in second, while Johandri Leicester finished third.<\/p>\n<p>Says Jeremy Yatt, Principal Officer of Fedhealth: \u201cThe Fedhealth XTERRA Grabouw is a great event for the serious off-road triathlete, where you can clinch one of the various age group qualification slots for the XTERRA World Championships taking place later this year.
