{"id":16322,"date":"2018-02-19T17:59:00","date_gmt":"2018-02-19T15:59:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southafricatoday.net\/sport\/?p=16322"},"modified":"2018-02-19T17:59:00","modified_gmt":"2018-02-19T15:59:00","slug":"ho-weber-swim-to-victory-at-4th-annual-sanlam-cape-mile","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southafricatoday.net\/sport\/press-release\/ho-weber-swim-to-victory-at-4th-annual-sanlam-cape-mile\/","title":{"rendered":"Ho, Weber swim to victory at 4th annual Sanlam Cape Mile"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Chad Ho (Morningside, Durban) and Michelle Weber (Franschhoek) had the crowds on their feet at 4<sup>th<\/sup> annual Sanlam Cape Mile brought to you by Sanlam Investments at the picturesque Eikenhof Dam (Elgin, Grabouw) on Sunday, 18 February 2018.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI had a very good race,\u201d says Ho.\u00a0 \u201cThe start was nice and comfortable.\u00a0 I decided to make my move at the first turn around buoy, when we started to swim into the wind.\u00a0 I just put my head down and focused on growing the gap.\u00a0 I am really happy with how I am swimming at the moment.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSuccessfully defending my title is an honor,\u201d continues Ho.\u00a0 \u201cThe Sanlam Cape Mile is a great event.\u00a0 It\u2019s well organized, very professional and has a great atmosphere.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ho completed the 2018 Sanlam Cape Mile in a lightning fast time of 19 minutes 08 seconds.\u00a0 Chad Michau came in second, while Dylan Wright finished third.<\/p>\n<p>For the first time since the event\u2019s inception, Danie Marais did not toe the line with Chad Ho and Myles Brown.\u00a0 \u201cI broke my collar bone while surfing,\u201d says Marais.\u00a0 \u201cI am really devastated that I wasn\u2019t able to compete this year.\u00a0 I\u2019ve been training really hard for the 2018 race.\u00a0 My heart was set on claiming gold, but I will be back next year for the win.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The women\u2019s elite race saw a sprint finish between Michelle Weber and Robyn Kinghorn.\u00a0 Weber clinched victory in a time of 21 minutes 04 seconds.<\/p>\n<p>According to Weber the start was really quick.\u00a0 \u201cIt\u2019s been a tough couple of weeks of racing, but I really wanted to win today.\u00a0 I love the open water swimming community and I love the vibe at the Sanlam Cape Mile.\u00a0 It\u2019s the perfect family day out.\u00a0 My two sisters also swam today.
