Considered one of the fastest professional open water swimmers in the world, Chad Ho is hoping for a successful title defense on Sunday, 18 February 2018 when he takes on the 4th<\/sup> annual Sanlam Cape Mile brought to you by Sanlam Investments at the picturesque Eikenhof Dam (Elgin, Grabouw).<\/p>\n

Ho\u2019s 3rd<\/sup> attempt at the Sanlam Cape Mile saw him clinch gold in a lightning fast time of 17 minutes 48 seconds in 2017.\u00a0 \u201cI enjoy open water swimming because it is a mysterious sport,\u201d says Ho.\u00a0 \u201cI love that it is unpredictable.\u00a0 Not knowing what the outcome will be gives me an extra adrenaline rush.\u00a0 The Sanlam Cape Mile is held in a very beautiful part of Cape Town.\u00a0\u00a0 I was thrilled with my performance in 2017.\u00a0 I finally managed to win.\u00a0\u00a0 I am hoping to repeat my performance in 2018. I don\u2019t go into races with a strategy in mind.\u00a0\u00a0 I will just remain focused on my stroke, my sighting and my capabilities on the day.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ho will face tough competition from 2016 Sanlam Cape Mile winner, Myles Brown.\u00a0 Brown placed 4th<\/sup> at the Sanlam Cape Mile in 2017.\u00a0 \u201cI was a little disappointed with my performance in 2017,\u201d admits Brown.\u00a0 \u201cI struggled with the conditions, but still had a great time.\u00a0\u00a0 My strategy for race day is to stick to my strengths.\u00a0\u00a0 The Eikenhof Dam is an iconic venue that sets the scene for an amazing, fun filled family day.\u201d<\/p>\n

For the first time since the event\u2019s inception, Danie Marais will not be towing the line with Ho and Brown at the Sanlam Cape Mile.\u00a0 \u201cI broke my collar bone while surfing,\u201d says Marais.\u00a0 \u201cI am really devastated that I won\u2019t be competing this year.\u00a0 I\u2019ve been training really hard for the 2018 race.\u00a0 My heart was set on claiming gold this year.\u00a0 I will definitely be back next year for the win.\u201d<\/p>\n

Michelle Weber will be leading the field in the women\u2019s elite race.\u00a0 Weber claimed gold at the Sanlam Cape Mile in 2015 and 2016.\u00a0 In 2017 she had to settle for second place behind Ashley Twitchell.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis will be the 4th<\/sup> time that I compete in the Sanlam Cape Mile,\u201d says Weber.\u00a0 \u201cI enjoy the event because it has an awesome vibe, great entertainment, prizes, live music and food. \u00a0\u00a0Everything is just great.\u00a0\u00a0 My goal is to do the best that I can.\u00a0 A mile is much shorter than 10km, but I\u2019ve trained hard.\u00a0 I look forward to seeing where I am at this point of my training.\u201d<\/p>\n
