{"id":13847,"date":"2017-11-26T10:14:09","date_gmt":"2017-11-26T08:14:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southafricatoday.net\/sport\/?p=13847"},"modified":"2017-11-26T10:14:09","modified_gmt":"2017-11-26T08:14:09","slug":"buco-origin-of-trails-stage-one-delivers-on-its-promise","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southafricatoday.net\/sport\/press-release\/buco-origin-of-trails-stage-one-delivers-on-its-promise\/","title":{"rendered":"BUCO Origin Of Trails Stage One delivers on its promise"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>Stellenbosch (Western Cape) \u2013 <\/em><\/strong>Stage One of the BUCO Origin Of Trails Two-Day Mountain Bike (MTB) Stage Race treated mountain bikers to a single track experience like no other in the picturesque town of Stellenbosch on Saturday, 25 November 2017.<strong><em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Affectionately known as the MTB party of the year, riders could choose between three entry options:\u00a0 a <strong>Long Course<\/strong> (+-55km on Saturday and +-58km on Sunday), a <strong>Medium Course<\/strong> (+-55km on Saturday and +-29km on Sunday) and a <strong>Short Course<\/strong> (+-28km on Saturday and +-29km on Sunday).<\/p>\n<p>Daniel van der Walt crossed the finish line first in the <strong>men\u2019s +-28km Short Course <\/strong>race in 01 hour 18 minutes 23 seconds.\u00a0 \u201cThis is the second time that I take part in the BUCO Origin Of Trails,\u201d says Daniel.\u00a0 \u201cThe event is really cool.\u00a0 It\u2019s been really chilled because of exams.\u00a0 I thought I\u2019d use this event as a training ride.\u00a0 I felt really good today.\u00a0 Tomorrow I\u2019d definitely like to go for the win.\u201d\u00a0 Ico Coetzee came in second, while Tjaart van der Walt finished third.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/results.finishtime.co.za\/MyResults.aspx?uid=35-2411-27-109916\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Christine Van Der Walt <\/a>claimed the <strong>women\u2019s <\/strong><strong>+-28km Short Course <\/strong>stage victory in 01 hours 49 minutes 55 seconds.\u00a0 \u201cThis is the first time that I take part in the BUCO Origin Of Trails.\u00a0 My son, Daniel, actually got me to enter,\u201d admits Christine.\u00a0 \u201cThe route was pretty cool.\u00a0 I\u2019m not that good on the technical sections, so I was a little worried.\u00a0 The trails were awesome.\u201d\u00a0 Sannelize Janse Van Rensburg came in second, while Mikayla Forrester finished third.<\/p>\n<p>Making his BUCO Origin Of Trails debut on the day, Renay Groustra claimed victory in the <strong>men\u2019s +-55km Long Course<\/strong> in an impressive time of 02 hours 36 minutes 08 seconds.\u00a0 \u201cI haven\u2019t raced much lately,\u201d says Groustra.\u00a0 \u201cThe Stage featured the perfect intensity.\u00a0 It\u2019s awesome riding in Jonkershoek.\u00a0 The trails are challenging.\u00a0 Tomorrow I\u2019ll ride with the front guys and just see how it pans out.\u201d\u00a0 Jean-Pierre Lloyd came in second, while Craig Uria finished third.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>women\u2019s +-55km Long Course <\/strong>victory was claimed by Louise Ferreira in 03 hours 05 minutes 16 seconds.\u00a0 According to Ferreira, the BUCO Origin Of Trails is a must do event.\u00a0 \u201cCorrie Muller really keeps the routes interesting.\u00a0 There are always surprises.\u00a0 You can see that a lot of work has gone into these trails.\u00a0 It\u2019s a fantastic ride to do.\u00a0 I was riding with Ila and Marleen who are both good technical riders. They\u2019re just fearless.\u00a0 It was really nice riding with them as they challenged and pushed me.\u201d\u00a0 Ila Stow came in second, while Marleen Lourens finished third.<\/p>\n<p>Dakar Rally star Giniel De Villiers was also seen in action at the BUCO Origin Of Trails.\u00a0 \u201cDakar is definitely much harder than this race,\u201d laughs De Villiers.\u00a0 \u201cThe Stage One route was brilliant.\u00a0 There was a nice balance between toughness and enjoyment.\u00a0 The single track was really nice while the climbs were tough.\u00a0 My training starts now so I couldn\u2019t enjoy the wine at the water points, but it did look brilliant though.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ariane L\u00fcthi had the rare opportunity to enjoy the route, scenery and vibe at the BUCO Origin Of Trails.\u00a0 \u201cIt was such a beautiful ride,\u201d says L\u00fcthi.\u00a0 \u201cI just got back from Europe.\u00a0 Taking part today made me appreciate our trails even more.\u00a0 It was nice to be able to chat with other riders on route.\u00a0 Everyone shares the same passion.\u00a0 Stillwater Sports\u2019 events are always great.\u00a0 The trails are great and the routes are well marked.\u00a0 It\u2019s nice to be able to take it easy for a change.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The BUCO Origin Of Trails grants riders a \u201conce a year\u201d opportunity to experience a spectacular combination of single track in the pristine setting of the majestic Stellenbosch Winelands.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Stage One<\/strong> treated <strong>Long Course<\/strong> riders to a <strong>+- 55km route<\/strong> that featured <strong>20.7km<\/strong> of <strong>single track<\/strong>, while <strong>Short Course<\/strong> riders had to complete a <strong>+- 28km route<\/strong> that featured <strong>7.5km<\/strong> of <strong>single track<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>After a fun day out on route riders and spectators were treated to a mesmerizing performance by Bottomless Coffee Band.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>NEXT 740m<\/p>\n<p><strong>Amount of Single Track:<\/strong>\u00a0 10km<\/p>\n<p>Riders can look forward to sharing their race stories while enjoying an ice cold Becks Blue \u2018guilt free\u2019 in the finish area.<\/p>\n<p>The first 1200 entrants received an Under Armour Garment.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>SPECIALIZED MOUNTAIN BIKE UP FOR GRABS<\/u>:\u00a0 <\/strong>One lucky mountain biker will take home a magnificent Specialized Epic Comp Mountain Bike to the value of R40\u00a0000 after completing the 2017 BUCO Origin Of Trails Two-Day MTB Stage Race.<\/p>\n<p>To qualify for the lucky draw, riders need to collect a lucky draw ticket from the Specialized stand in the festival village.\u00a0 Please note, this competition is only open to the 2017 BUCO Origin Of Trails entrants.\u00a0 The lucky
