Johannesburg The organisers of the FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN are excited to welcome the Reach For A Dream Foundation as the third official charity of the 2017 event.

When entering online runners can now choose to support one (or all three) of the event’s charities:   the Johannesburg Heritage Foundation, the Johannesburg SPCA and the Reach For A Dream Foundation.

“We were overwhelmed by the support that our charities received from runners at the inaugural event,” says Michael Meyer, Managing Director of Stillwater Sports.  “In total just over R82 000.00 was raised in support of the Johannesburg Heritage Foundation and the Johannesburg SPCA. This year we are excited to add the Reach For A Dream Foundation (RFAD) to our list of charities.”

“All three charities lie close to our hearts,” continues Meyer.  “RFAD believes in the power of dreams, encouraging children to use their dreams to fight life-threatening illnesses.  The Johannesburg Heritage Foundation is instrumental in numerous inner city projects that cross a broad spectrum including education, research and rejuvenation, while by supporting the SPCA we are able to do our part for Johannesburg’s animals.  We are extremely proud to support the selfless work of these charities.  We look forward to welcoming thousands of runners to the start line in September, ready to explore their city and show their support.”

The Reach For A Dream Foundation was established in 1988.  “As a charity of the FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN, we are granted the opportunity to create magical moments that will inspire hope in the lives of children,” says Chloe Mpinga, Business Development Officer at RFAD.  “We believe in the power of hope and what it can do in a person’s life, particularly when one is diagnosed with a life-threating illness.  Given that the FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN supports RFAD, it also speaks to the fact that the event supports our values of hope and giving. That is something special.”

A non- profit organisation, the Johannesburg SPCA started operating in 1902 and depends entirely on the kindness and support of individuals and companies.  “We are truly grateful for the support received from the FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN,” says Celeste Houseman, General Manager of the Johannesburg SPCA.  “The donation that we received in 2016 assisted our inspectors to continue investigating cruelty, and rescue animals in dire straits.  It helped us achieve our Mission and Vision of uplifting the Welfare of all animals.  We are excited and really looking forward to the 2017 event.”

The Johannesburg Heritage Foundation was founded in 1985 and is dedicated to the exploration, documentation, protection and restoration of Johannesburg’s built heritage.   According to Brett McDougall of the Johannesburg Heritage Foundation, the surge of interest in the foundation after the 2016 event was overwhelming.  “We’re thrilled to be associated with the FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN,” says McDougall.  “The event takes place in the historic city centre that we work hard to protect.  All funds donated will allow us to continue our Heritage Education Programme to non-fee paying schools in the City.   This year we will be fielding a team to participate in the event.”

About the FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN sponsorship:

FNB Business is proud to be the title sponsor of the FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN.  This sponsorship forms part of our ongoing strategy to support local and community events that focus on a healthy lifestyle and family involvement. Road running is an inclusive sport that allows us to engage with a larger audience and support a sporting disciplines that advance our commitment to building, enduring and rewarding relationships with communities we are a part of.

We believe in supporting a race that encourages people to run and know their city; a race that strives to re-invent how people perceive and experience the city centre. The FNB Bank City buildings are well-known and iconic buildings in the Johannesburg CBD and the precinct was recently revamped in 2015 with three lifestyle concepts of Work, Eat & Play in mind. For many years it has been viewed as traditional banking headquarters; however the revamp has positively changed the experience of the precinct.

Sponsoring the FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN is aligned to our belief in the importance of rejuvenating and reviving the city centre so it remains relevant and an important part of Johannesburg’s Heritage.
