Adventure seekers Hayley Preen (Hout Bay, Cape Town) and Marc Price (Sandton, Johannesburg) have opted for double the challenge of XTERRA by signing up for both the XTERRA Lite and XTERRA Full at the Elgin Grabouw Country Club on  Saturday, 23 February 2019 and Sunday, 24 February 2019 respectively.

The largest XTERRA in the word, the XTERRA Grabouw Lite features a 400m swim, a +-14km MTB and a +-6.5km Trail Run while the XTERRA Grabouw Full boasts a 1.5km Swim, a +-25.6km MTB and a +-12.4km Trail Run.

A second year Mechanical Engineering student at UCT, Preen started cycling competitively for UCT’s first team in 2018.  “I love off-road triathlons, trail running and mountain biking,” says Preen.  “XTERRA has always been such a fun event.  I was very young when I first started taking part in XTERRA.  I literally started with the XTERRA Kids Race.  I have taken part in every XTERRA since 2013, either individually or as part of a team.  In 2018 I made my debut in the XTERRA Full Race.”

“I love the XTERRA weekend,” continues Preen.  “I entered the XTERRA Lite with my mom and my dad.  My mom will swim, while my dad and I still need to decide who will mountain bike and who will run.  I entered the XTERRA Full in the individual category as I look forward to pushing my limits again.  XTERRA Grabouw has a world class route.  I love the mountain bike discipline, especially the rock garden.  The trail run route is also very nice.  My goal at the XTERRA Lite is to have fun with my family, while at the XTERRA Full I’d like to finish in a top 10 position.”

According to Price, he is passionate about off-road triathlon.  “I started taking part in XTERRA when it was first introduced to South Africa in 2004,” says Price.  “The XTERRA route is brutal, but I love it.  I’m not a fan of deep, soft sand but it comes with the territory.  The venue is beautiful and well worth the drive.  My goal is to podium in my age group category both in the XTERRA Lite on Saturday and the XTERRA Full on Sunday.”
