Johannesburg: Former City Press editor Ferial Haffajee is expected to appear in the Johannesburg High Court. Four former City Press reporters – Mawande Mvumvu, Khanyiso Tshwaku, Muntu Vilakazi and Denvor de Wee – brought the case against Haffajee in January 2014, accusing her of defaming them by calling them racists. They four want R3 million each from Haffajee and Media24, which owns City Press.

Pretoria: Former intelligence minister Ronnie Kasrils is suing deputy minister of defence Kebby Maphatsoe in a R1 million defamation case in the Pretoria High Court. Maphatsoe allegedly called Kasrils a “counter-revolutionary and an enemy of the people”. He also allegedly accused him of orchestrating rape allegations against President Jacob Zuma. Zuma was later acquitted.

Jan Kempdorp: Tefelo Dikole, 32, is expected to appear in the Jan Kempdorp Magistrate’s Court for a formal bail application. He is accused of murdering six-year-old Kutlwano Garesape who was killed while trying to protect his mother from Dikole who allegedly attempted to rape her while they were walking to school earlier this month.

Cape Town: A 61-year-old woman in Mitchells Plain was arrested by police searching the house she was in on Korfball Street, Beacon Valley. Police found 60g of heroin worth an estimated street value of R10,000. The woman will appear at the Mitchells Plain Magistrate’s Court on charges of possession of drugs.

Somerset West: On Friday August 19, 2016, members from the Cape Town K9 Unit and Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries conducted anti-poaching patrols and arrested a 30-year-old man in the Gordon’s Bay area for illegal possession and transportation of 9,417 unites of shucked abalone worth an estimated R1,5 million. The man who is from Hermanus is expected to appear at the Strand Magistrate’s Court.

Worcester: Worcester police who followed up on information received arrested a 55-year-old man and confiscated drugs, including tik (crystal meth), mandrax and dagga (cannabis) worth an estimated street value or R17,000. The man will appear at Worcester Magistrates’ Court on possession of drugs charges.
