EFF registers first seats in Rustenburg local municipality

Incomplete voting results on Thursday showed the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has won council seats in the hotly contested Rustenburg local municipality, where it has been active since its early days in the mining community.

By lunchtime, six seats in the local council had been decided, with the EFF winning Ward 24 with 46.52 percent against the ANC’s 40.24 percent while the Forum 4 Service Delivery (F4SD) got 6.12 percent of the votes.

The EFF also won Ward 38 with 46.96 percent while the ANC got 33.66 percent here and the F4SD received 11.32 percent of the votes.

The ANC won Ward 36 with 49.04 percent. Here the DA scored 35.45 percent and the EFF was third with 5.94 percent. The ANC also won Ward 9 with 56.71 percent, while the EFF registered 33.66 percent and the DA obtained 6.26 percent of the votes.

The DA retained ward 18 with 77.84 percent, against the ANC’s 8.18 percent and the Freedom Front Plus’s 7.39 percent. The DA also retained Ward 17 with 74.1 percent of votes cast, while the ANC was second with 12.85 percent and the Freedom Front Plus obtained 6.09 percent of the votes.

In other results, the ANC secured five seats in the fiercely contested Tlokwe/Ventersdorp municipality. In Kgetleng local municipality, the ANC won three seats and in Mafikeng local municipality it had claimed 31 seats according to results received at 1pm.
