On December 14, farmers in the Harrismith area rescued a nine-year-old boy out of the hands of armed hijackers.

Two men armed with a gun and a knife hijacked a family traveling from Champagne Castle Road to Harrismith. When the hijackers stopped the vehicle at a Midlands service station, the father, mother, and one of the children in the car managed to escape. The nine-year-old boy was not able to getaway.

With the assistance of the police, farmers in that area launched a manhunt for the hijackers and managed to rescue the child.

According to Mark Pitout of Secure SA Security Company, the boy is safe and the hijackers have been arrested.
