The Mthatha magistrate court has released a taxi driver on a R500 bail after he was arrested by the Road Traffic Management Corporation’s National Traffic Anti-Corruption Unit for displaying a false licence disk on his vehicle. <\/p>\n

The driver was arrested on Sunday after members of the anti-corruption unit established that the vehicle he was driving had allegedly been suspended in 2015 after he was involved in a crash.  <\/p>\n

He was charged with fraud after it was discovered that his unroadworthy vehicle had allegedly displayed a licence disc belonging to another vehicle.<\/p>\n

The court released him on bail and postponed the case to 11 July 2018. <\/p>\n

The driver has a previous conviction of culpable homicide and a five year suspended sentence following the 2015 crash.<\/p>\n

The CEO of the RTMC, Advocate Makhosini Msibi has welcomed the arrest by members of the anti-corruption unit, and hopes this will improve efforts for compliance with road traffic regulations by motorists’.  The public can report incidences of fraud and corruption on: 0861 400 800.
