{"id":9001,"date":"2018-04-10T17:15:14","date_gmt":"2018-04-10T15:15:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southafricatoday.net\/media\/accidents\/police-welcome-long-jail-terms-imposed-on-taxi-violence-perpetrators-in-limpopo\/"},"modified":"2018-04-10T17:15:18","modified_gmt":"2018-04-10T15:15:18","slug":"police-welcome-long-jail-terms-imposed-on-taxi-violence-perpetrators-in-limpopo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southafricatoday.net\/media\/accidents\/police-welcome-long-jail-terms-imposed-on-taxi-violence-perpetrators-in-limpopo\/","title":{"rendered":"Police welcome long jail terms imposed on taxi violence perpetrators in Limpopo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<p>The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba has welcomed the long jail terms given to Taxi violence perpetrators.<\/p>\n<p>The High Court in Polokwane have sentenced eight (08) accused to lengthy jail terms for murder, assault GBH, pointing of firearm, possession of unlawful firearms and ammunition, malicious damage to property and public violence.<\/p>\n<p>These sentences follow the taxi feud which erupted between the Ohrigstad Taxi Association and the Leolo Taxi Association during March 2017.<\/p>\n<p>During this violence, one man was shot dead and several vehicles including taxis were damaged until the police were notified, reacted swiftly and arrested these suspects.<\/p>\n<p>The Police Dedicated Task Team was established and started with their initial investigations which culminated into these heavy jail terms.<\/p>\n<p>The accused were sentenced as follows:<\/p>\n<p>Stanley Ramaila (41) and Aubrey Mafane (34) were each given:<br \/>\n15 years imprisonment for murder.<br \/>\n03 years imprisonment for possession of firearm without license.<br \/>\n02 years imprisonment for unlawful possession of ammunition.<br \/>\n12 months imprisonment or R20 000.00 for assault GBH.<br \/>\n02 years imprisonment for public violence.<\/p>\n<p>Nathaniel Matshaba (37) and Tumelo Makofane (35) were each given;<br \/>\n10 years imprisonment for murder.<br \/>\n03 years imprisonment for possession of unlicensed firearm.<br \/>\n02 years imprisonment for unlawful possession of ammunition.<br \/>\n02 years imprisonment for public violence.<\/p>\n<p>Lucas Kgwedi (50) and Meshack Shai (45) were each given:<br \/>\n02 years imprisonment for public violence.<\/p>\n<p>Hector Komane (34) was sentenced to:<br \/>\n03 years imprisonment or R10 000. 00 for malicious damage to property.<br \/>\n02 years imprisonment for public violence.<\/p>\n<p>Godfrey Mphogo (47) was given:<br \/>\n12 months imprisonment or R20 000.00 for pointing of firearm.<br \/>\n02 years imprisonment for public violence.<\/p>\n<p>All the accused were declared unfit to possess firearms.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;These sentences will serve as a strong warning to the public in general that any person who is involved in public violence will be dealt with harshly by the law,&rdquo; concluded General Ledwaba.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.arrivealive.co.za\/news.aspx?s=1&#038;i=34237&#038;page=Police-welcome-long-jail-terms-imposed-on-taxi-violence-perpetrators-in-Limpopo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Read more on Arrive Alive <\/a><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/southafricatoday.net\/media\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/arrive-alive.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4522\" src=\"https:\/\/southafricatoday.net\/media\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/arrive-alive.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"48\" height=\"48\" title=\"\"><\/a><br \/>\n<br \/>South Africa Today &#8211; Accidents<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba has welcomed the long jail terms given to Taxi violence perpetrators.
