Dozens of drivers who tried to bribe our officers are now facing jail time, on top of the penalty for the original offence,&rdquo; said Farrel Payne, Director: Provincial Traffic Services.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Attempted bribery cases are in various stages of prosecution in the following areas:<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>12 in Worcester<\/li>\n<li>7 in Brackenfell, Cape Town<\/li>\n<li>6 in Beaufort West<\/li>\n<li>4 in Swellendam<\/li>\n<li>2 in Vredenburg&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li>1 in Laingsburg<\/li>\n<li>1 in Caledon<\/li>\n<li>1 in Mossel Bay<\/li>\n<li>1 in Somerset West.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Provincial Traffic Services reported that 13 people were killed on Western Cape roads between Thursday 1 February and Sunday 4 February:<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>Thursday 1 February<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>02:05 &ndash; 2 pedestrians were killed on the N2 at Groot Brak River in a collision between two heavy motor vehicles and a light motor vehicle.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>Friday 2 February<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>15:50 &ndash; a driver and 6 passengers were killed in a multi-vehicle collision on the R43 Artois Road near Wolseley.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>Saturday 3 February&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>23:45 &ndash; a driver was killed in a head-on collision between a bus and a heavy motor vehicle.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>Sunday 4 February&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>13:40 &ndash; a man was killed when a light delivery vehicle lost control and overturned on the R43 near De Doorns.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li>21:10 &ndash; a man was killed when a vehicle overturned on the R300 near Stock Road.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li>22:20 &ndash; a pedestrian was killed on the R43 between Ceres and Wolseley.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Safety starts with respect and respect starts with you. For more information see&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/safelyhome.westerncape.gov.za\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">safelyhome.westerncape.gov.za<\/a>&nbsp;and on Facebook and Twitter&nbsp;@WCGovSafelyHome.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Additional statistics for the week of 31 January to 6 February<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>Provincial Traffic Services held 27 alcohol blitz roadblocks and Random Breath Testing operations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>A total of 7&nbsp;395 drivers were screened for (being under suspicion of) driving under the influence&nbsp;of&nbsp;alcohol, resulting in 41 arrests.<\/li>\n<li>The highest breath alcohol reading recorded was 1,28 mg\/ 1&nbsp;000&nbsp;ml of breath in the Vredendal service area &ndash; 5 times the legal limit of 1,28&nbsp;mg\/ 1&nbsp;000&nbsp;ml.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>A total of 2&nbsp;553 fines in the amount of R3&nbsp;623&nbsp;657 were issued for various traffic violations ranging from driver violations to vehicle fitness offences.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>Provincial Traffic Services recorded 1&nbsp;041 speeding offences. The highest speeds recorded were:\n<ul type=\"circle\">\n<li>177 km\/h in a 120 km\/h zone on the N1 in the Beaufort West service area.<\/li>\n<li>144 km\/h in a 100 km\/h zone on the N1 in the Worcester service area.<\/li>\n<li>134 km\/h in an 80 km\/h zone on the N7 in the Vredendal service area.<\/li>\n<li>107 km\/h in a 70 km\/h zone in the Vredenburg service area.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>Provincial Traffic Services made 13 other arrests.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>2 drivers were arrested for false documentation &ndash; 1 on the N2 in the Swellendam service area, and 1 on the N1 in the Beaufort West service area.<\/li>\n<li>2 drivers were arrested for reckless and negligent driving &ndash; 1 on the N1 at Brackenfell and 1 in the N7 Vredendal service area.<\/li>\n<li>3 drivers were arrested for excessive speed in a 120 km\/ h zone in the N1 Beaufort West service area.
