An accident in Mt. Edgecombe, KZN, claimed the life of a 12-year-old girl this morning (Tuesday). <\/p>\n

The incident occurred near the N2 south on-ramp when a grey Kia Sportage, carrying a family of four, collided with a concrete barrier. Passing motorists contacted the Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Phoenix Operations Centre at approximately 08:34, requesting assistance. <\/p>\n

On arrival, Reaction Officers discovered paramedics from a private ambulance service in attendance. It was alleged that the driver attempted to avoid a metal drum filled with soil (picture 2), which had been placed on the yellow line, when the incident occurred. An attempt was made to stop the vehicle, but manoeuvring proved impossible due to the presence of another vehicle on the right.<\/p>\n

The vehicle was occupied by a man, his wife and two children. The 12-year-old sustained life-threatening injuries from the impact and was pronounced deceased at the scene.<\/p>\n
