The Minister of Transport, Dr. Bonginkosi Blade Nzimande, together  with the Deputy Minister of Transport, Ms. Sindisiwe Chikunga will officially launch the 13th anniversary of the October Transport Month Campaign (OTM) on Saturday, 29th September 2018 at the Khayelitsha township of the Western Cape province, under the theme: “Together we move South Africa Forward”.
\nNow in its thirteenth (13th) year running as endorsed by Cabinet in 2005, the month-long campaign will roll out and showcase transport infrastructure development and services as well as flagship projects delivered across the modes of road, rail, aviation and maritime including public transport and road safety.
\n Joining the Minister and Deputy Minister among other dignitaries and key transport stakeholders during the official launch will be MECs for Roads and Transport, Community Safety and Public Works in the provinces together with the City of Cape Town.
\n The 2018 OTM campaign will be officially launched during a community imbizo where the Minister will engage with various stakeholders ranging from Departmental entities across all modes of transport, political formations, trade unions, transport and commuter organisations, councillors and the community at large.
\n Earlier in August, Minister Nzimande undertook a site visit and in-loco inspection at the Paarden Eiland Depot to view damages to the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa’s (PRASA) infrastructure sustained during various arson attacks on Metrorail trains in the province.
\n Through the Imbizo, the Minister will monitor progress and address challenges to the implementation of projects aimed at improving public transport services including the rail, bus and taxi industry in the Western Cape and also forge partnerships with various stakeholders and the community.
\n During the official launch, Mr Nzimande will outline flagship projects and an OTM campaign and events programme and achievements that the Department will showcase throughout the month of October.
