A father and son were shot during an armed robbery at a local shop in Richmond, KwaZulu-Natal.
The members of VIVA tactical unit immediately pursued the suspects and managed to arrest one suspect in nearby bushes.
It was a long and tiring day for the members who were following up on information received regarding older cases and pursuing vehicles marked as suspect. A call came through of the shooting at Chilley Street, Richmond and the team responded.
Apparently, three suspects entered the local shop and tried to rob the owner. It was then that the owner and son were shot at close range. First on the scene was a member from Richmond Traffic and a VIVA security tactical members. The suspects escaped and the members gave chase and caught one in nearby bushes.
The team managed to recover a firearm from the one suspect. An intense search began for the other two suspects. After the arrest of the one suspect, the team members received a telephone call stating that another suspect was hiding out in a property situated in Harding Streets.
The property owner’s sons caught the hiding criminal and the police made an arrest.
It was around 21:00 when members of VIVO received information about the third suspect. Together with the South African Police, the suspect was caught while walking on the R56. The suspect was arrested without any resistance. Another firearm was found and confiscated.
