One fatality in Merebank horror crash

One person has been killed and approximately 30 injured after an 80 ton crane on a trailer came loose from the truck it was connected to and rolled down Himalayas Road and crashed into two taxis and a vehicle on Friday evening just before midnight.
Rescue Care Paramedics arrived on the scene to find absolute chaos.

An Abnormal truck carrying a trailer with an 80 crane on it somehow got dislodged from the horse and began to roll down Himalayas Road. The trailer then crashed into two taxis and a vehicle near the intersection of Simla Road. Multiple causalities were injured with some being entrapped in the wreckage.

Rescue Care Paramedics worked closely with the Durban Fire Department, Car Towing Services and Joeys Towing Service to try free the trapped patients. Whilst the Towing experts used heavy duty Cranes to lift the Crane the Durban Fire Department used the Jaws of Life and other hydraulic tools to cut the patients free. This was a mammoth task and the last patient was freed approximately Five hours later. Approximately 30 people had sustained various injuries and were treated on scene before being transported to various Durban Hospitals for the further care that they required. The roadway remained closed.

SAPS were on the scene and will be investigating the circumstance around this accident.
