Nine dead in single taxi collision in Midrand

Nine people have lost their lives after a taxi collided with a lamp post on the centre barrier of the N1 near the Buccleuch interchange, Midrand, this afternoon.

ER24 paramedics arrived at around 13:30 along with many other services including the Fire Department. The roof of the taxi had been ripped off on impact and several bodies were found on the highway. Two bodies were also found inside the wreak. A 14-year-old girl seems to have been the youngest amongst the deceased. It is believed that two adults and a 4-year-old child survived the incident – they had suffered serious to critical injuries and were transported to hospital by other services.

JMPD, Traffic and the South African Police Services were all on the scene for further investigations.
