Multiple injured in a Taxi crash on the M4 Southern Freeway

Ten people have been injured after a horrific accident on the M4 Southern Freeway before the M7 Edwin Swales offramp just after 6am this morning.

Rescue Care Paramedics arrived on the scene to find one of the vehicles in pieces on the freeway. A taxi and a bakkie had collided before the bakkie basically disintegrated into three pieces across the freeway. The bakkie driver was seriously injuries and entrapped in the wreckage. Advanced Life Support Paramedics worked to stabilise the man in the vehicle whilst the Durban Fire Department used the Jaws of Life to cut him free. Once freed he was transported to a nearby Hospital for the further care that he required. Nine passengers in the taxi were also injured and stabilised on the scene before being transported to various Durban Hospitals for the further care that they required.

At this stage the events leading up to the collision is unknown however SAPS were on the scene and will be investigating further.
