Minibus industry receives PPE donation to stop the spread of Covid-19

Today I attended the distribution of Personal Protective Equipment event to the Western Cape minibus taxi industry in Malmesbury.

The event organised by the National Liquor Traders Council in partnership with Distell is in support of SANTACO Western Cape’s compliance initiative to assist taxi drivers and commuters with face masks and alcohol-based hand sanitisers.

This support is critical as it underpins government’s efforts in fighting the Covid-19 pandemic especially in the transport sector where daily congregation of commuters is the norm.

The minibus taxi industry is the predominant form of public transport in the Western Cape, transporting over 70% of passengers daily.

The government is not currently in a position to provide Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to the minibus taxi industry , but does expect that the industry participants and passengers comply with Covid-19 requirements of wearing facemasks and sanitizing all passengers.
