19 months later: Local NPO still at the job, sanitizing to keep the community safe
Despite lockdown regulations easing down, a dedicated team of Scientology Volunteer Ministers insists on keeping their community safe by sanitizing Kyalami corner shopping center 6 days a week. Today, they visited their local shopping center and sanitized it once more in an effort to keep Kyalami Corner shoppers and the community safe, a duty they have carried for the past 500+ days of lockdown.
Spending hundreds of thousands of hours trying to keep their neighbors protected, they also regularly sanitized local schools, houses, halls, community facilities, leeuwkop prison, Kyalami country club and more around the Kyalami area to make sure their community is as safe as possible from this virus.
The shopping complex, a busy hub where Kyalami residents do their shopping for necessities, could act as a high risk cross contamination spot if not sanitized frequently. “Our whole humanitarian purpose is to help people. And we have been bright since covid hit at finding all kinds of ways we could assist”. Said Sandile Hlayisi, Public Affairs Director for the Scientology Volunteer Ministers.
After they sanitized the center, a staff member from @Home (Homeware Store) in Kyalami Corner thanked the Volunteers profusely. “We feel so safe coming to work as a result of what you have been doing! I can’t believe how dedicated you are to helping others.”One of the Kyalami residents said, “Wow, you guys are sanitizing at the Kyalami corner as well?! That is very good to know. You are making the entire community safe. It makes me feel safer just to know that you are there as well and to know which shops, because those are the ones I will go too. You do so much for the community. This is why I love it here and will never move—the community cares. One restaurant manager said, “Oh thank you so much. I am so glad to see you. You just took the burden off my shoulders now. Now I feel like we are safe again. I cannot thank you enough. I videoed you sanitizing the restaurant and sent it to my boss telling him ‘The restaurant is safe again because of Scientology.’”

According to Hlayisi, the team of hundreds of volunteers travelled across the country and sanitized more than 68,000 buildings including government offices, army bases, municipality buildings, clinics and hospitals, orphanages, shelters.  This does not include the over 1.1 million taxis, buses, ambulances, fire trucks and more throughout all levels of lockdown.

Hlayisi concludes that there is no better feeling than knowing that you helped and that you made a real difference in a person’s life, especially in times like these.
“It is a very great feeling,” Hlayisi added.

He adds that without having studied the Volunteer Ministers courses written by L. Ron Hubbard, nothing would have been the same.  He attributes the success of all this work to that.
