Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) Governor Patrick Njoroge has scooped the Global Markets \u201cCentral Bank Governor of the Year Award for Sub-Saharan Africa\u201d<\/p>\n
Njoroge received the award on the margins of the IMF\/World Bank meetings in Washington, DC over the weekend, a statement from CBK said.<\/p>\n
Global Markets noted that Dr. Njoroge received the award for his efforts to \u201ccurb inflation, cleaning up of the banking sector and his drive to pursue a new policy of openness and transparency\u201d.<\/p>\n
Njoroge was commended for his stewardship of Kenya\u2019s financial sector and vocal support for innovation in the industry.<\/p>\n
The Governor said he was \u201cdeeply moved\u201d to receive the award adding that the award \u201crecognizes and validates our actions in a difficult environment\u201d.<\/p>\n
He thanked the Deputy Governor as well as the CBK staff and other fellow Governors for their support.<\/p>\n
\u201cComing just three weeks after the CBK 50th anniversary celebrations, I dedicate this award to CBK staff \u2013 they are CBK\u2019s greatest assets, and are transforming it to a world class modern Central bank,\u201d Njoroge said upon receiving the award.<\/p>\n
In May this year, Njoroge received the Central Bank of the Year Award under the patronage of the African Development Bank (AfDB). He was appointed Governor in 2015.<\/p>\n
Under his tenure commercial bank interest rates have come down while CBK as regulator has improved supervision of the banking sector.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
