{"id":6512,"date":"2016-07-16T15:50:33","date_gmt":"2016-07-16T13:50:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/southafricatoday.net\/africa-news\/?p=6512"},"modified":"2016-07-16T15:50:33","modified_gmt":"2016-07-16T13:50:33","slug":"police-beatings-in-uganda-using-electric-cables-video","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southafricatoday.net\/africa-news\/east-africa\/uganda\/police-beatings-in-uganda-using-electric-cables-video\/","title":{"rendered":"Police beatings in Uganda using electric cables &#8211; video"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Amnesty International has called for an investigation into the police beating of hundreds of opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) supporters in the Ugandan capital Kampala this week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAmnesty International is appalled by the deliberate and senseless beating of unarmed opposition supporters, the latest episode in the now all too familiar and systematic pattern of police brutality in Uganda,&#8221; Amnesty International regional director for East Africa, the Horn, and the Great Lakes Muthoni Wanyeki said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The beating of people gathering peacefully is cruel, inhuman, and degrading treatment under international law, which Uganda must respect. In severe cases it may even amount to torture.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe relevant authorities must immediately order an independent, impartial, efficient, and transparent investigation into these incidents.
