{"id":6333,"date":"2016-06-08T20:23:43","date_gmt":"2016-06-08T18:23:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/southafricatoday.net\/africa-news\/?p=6333"},"modified":"2016-06-08T20:23:43","modified_gmt":"2016-06-08T18:23:43","slug":"six-children-die-during-baptism-ceremony-in-zimbabwe-town","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southafricatoday.net\/africa-news\/southern-africa\/zimbabwe\/six-children-die-during-baptism-ceremony-in-zimbabwe-town\/","title":{"rendered":"Six children die during baptism ceremony in Zimbabwe town"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Six children from the same family died during a baptism ceremony near Sadza, a town about 150 kilometres south-east of the capital Harare, Zimbabwe police confirmed on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>National police spokesperson, Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba, confirmed the incident which took place on Tuesday and said two suspects \u2011 Maud Dzvuke, 30, and Jane Ruvinga, 34, who were reportedly in charge of the baptism ceremony \u2011 had been arrested.<\/p>\n<p>She said the two had taken nine children to a nearby stream for the baptism ceremony.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring baptism, one of the juveniles, aged four years, ran away from the stream and met another one. Both were shivering due to the coldness,\u201d Charamba said.<\/p>\n<p>She said the two were in a critical condition in hospital.<\/p>\n<p>A source, who did not wish to be named, said: \u201cThey were baptising eight children from the same family. Each time the children were immersed in water, they came out shivering. But the women would say the children were possessed by demons.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese children should have all died, but only two managed to get quick help and were taken to hospital. That\u2019s how they got saved. The other ones were not so lucky. They didn\u2019t make it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The children who died were two boys and four girls, aged between one and nine.
