The Uganda Peoples Defense Forces dispatched additional 1,440 soldiers to serve in Somalia under the African Union Somalia Mission (AMISOM).<\/p>\n

Henry Abbo deputy army spokesman has told the local media that the contingent will replace battle group 11 plus.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey are also replacing battle group 11 plus, who have already completed their 12-month tour of duty,\u201d He said<\/p>\n

\u201cOn arrival, they shall be conducting military work, especially fighting against Somali Al-Shabaab militants,\u201d He added.<\/p>\n

Abbo said they may also be called upon to conduct some police work during their stay to boost security.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe fresh deployment is intended \u201cto help boost the AMISOM and the Somali government plan to build capacity for the Somali security forces.\u201d He said.<\/p>\n
