{"id":2637,"date":"2014-06-14T14:04:36","date_gmt":"2014-06-14T07:04:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/southafricatoday.net\/africa-news\/?p=2637"},"modified":"2014-06-14T14:04:36","modified_gmt":"2014-06-14T07:04:36","slug":"united-states-warns-against-all-travel-to-south-sudan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southafricatoday.net\/africa-news\/east-africa\/united-states-warns-against-all-travel-to-south-sudan\/","title":{"rendered":"United States warns against all travel to South Sudan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The State Department issued a stern warning on Thursday against all travel to South Sudan by US citizens.<\/p>\n<p>The posting said the \u201cordered departure\u201d of some personnel at the US embassy in Juba has been rescinded.<\/p>\n<p>But it added that because of the continuing armed conflict in South Sudan the embassy \u201cwill continue operating at reduced staff levels for the foreseeable future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Embassy staff are required to travel in armoured US government vehicles at all times in Juba, the State Department said, noting that personnel must also observe a 9 pm to 6 am curfew.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDue to security concerns,\u201d the department added, \u201cspouses and family members of US government personnel are not permitted to reside in South Sudan.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The travel warning depicts South Sudan as a chaotic country rife with dangers to US citizens.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn addition to instability related to the current civil conflict, the risk of violent crime is high in Juba,\u201d the warning says.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe government of South Sudan has limited capacity to deter crime or provide security to travelers anywhere in the country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Health care in the country is \u201cextremely limited and poor,\u201d the notice states. \u201cUS citizens with medical conditions should not travel to South Sudan.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"South Sudan\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nation.co.ke\/news\/US-warns-against-all-travel-to-South-Sudan\/-\/1056\/2347304\/-\/w554j2z\/-\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Source<\/a><\/p>\n<p>South Africa Today Africa \u2013 Africa News East Africa <a title=\"South Sudan\" href=\"https:\/\/southafricatoday.net\/africa-news\/category\/east-africa\/south-sudan\/\">South Sudan<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The State Department issued a stern warning on Thursday against all travel to South Sudan by US citizens.
