Maputo \u2014 Mozambican Prime Minister Benvinda Levi announced on Wednesday that the government is unable to pay the traditional new year bonus for 2025 to workers in the public administration.<\/p>\n
The bonus is the equivalent of an extra month’s payment of the basic wage, and so it is colloquially known as “the 13th month’.<\/p>\n
Although public sector workers tend to treat the bonus as a right, it is, in reality, more of a tradition, and is not included in workers’ contracts.<\/p>\n
