Tyre Blast Heightens Fear Of Boko Haram In Kumba

A car tyre explosion at the Kumba commercial avenue on May 15, at about 1.50pm left citizens in a state of fear as many thought it was a bomb blast by the dreaded Islamic militant group, Boko Haram.

The heavy sound of the explosion sent people in a popular cyber café around the commercial hub, running for their lives, while passengers, drivers and workers of building material shops, barbing saloons and insurance companies were all gripped by fear. A Moslem faithful, who had laid a mat to pray, was about to run away, but for the laughter that followed, after many realised it was a sound of a tyre puncture.

Minutes after the incident, most of the denizens around the area, where the vehicle passed, said they thought it was the discharge of an explosive carried by a Boko Haram militant, reason why they were stunned or ran for their lives.
