Namibian First Lady Bears Witness to Sierra Leone Ban On Child Marriage

Namibian first lady Sustjie Mbumba was among the invited guests that witnessed Siera Leone president Julius Maada Bio sign the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act into law this week.

Other invited guests included the first lady of Cape Verde.

Sierra Leone brought in a new law banning child marriage with much fanfare at a ceremony organised by first lady Fatima Bio in the capital, Freetown.

Anybody now involved in the marriage of a girl younger than 18 will be jailed for at least 15 years or fined…
