Dr William Fischer speaks of horror in Guinea as Ebola outbreak spreads

WHAT began as a trip to Geneva to analyse technical documents landed US doctor William Fischer in a cement building in the middle of west Africa – where he witnessed the brutal reality of a rampant Ebola epidemic.

“I almost didn’t get on the plane because of the fear, because of what we see in movies and in books,” Dr Fischer told News Corp Australia.

At least 759 confirmed or suspected cases of Ebola have been reported across Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone since March this year

The death toll from the body-destroying virus now sits at 467, making this outbreak the deadliest on record according to the World Health Organisation.

Dr Fischer, a pulmonary diseases and critical care specialist from the University of North Carolina, has just returned from treating Ebola patients in Gueckedou, Guinea, near the border of Sierra Leone and Liberia…
