Japan the all-weather friend of Zambia

Zambia and Japan have for a long time been enjoying cordial relations in various aspects of the Zambian economy over the past 50 years.

The two countries share a number of things in common. For example, Zambia’s independence day coincided with the final day of the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games where the Zambian flag was waved for the first time outside the country at the closing ceremony of the games.

In the same year, Japan recognised Zambia as a State upon independence. The following year, trade agreements between the two countries entered into effect followed by the establishment of the Japanese Embassy in Zambia in 1970.
