LRDC considers gun carrying ban, legalising sex work

A ban on carrying firearms in public, legalising sex work and giving the green light to abortions are just some of the new pieces of legislation the Law Reform Development Commission (LRDC) will be working on next year.

This was revealed exclusively to Namibian Sun by LRDC chairperson Sacky Shanghala during a wide-ranging interview recently.
Shanghala also said that at this stage Namibia is not ready to have a debate about repealing the country’s anti-sodomy law.

“Next year, the LRDC will embark on two critical projects. One is whether we do away with firearms…and you can’t carry a firearm in public unless it is your rifle for hunting or you are a police officer or security guard.”

Also exempt from the possible ban will be other official men and women in uniform and those protecting the country’s VIPs.
