Farmer killed in farm attack

A German citizen Mr. Reinhard Schmidt (76) died of suffocation from being gagged during a farm attack in the Hardap region, Namibia on Thursday February 26, 2015.

It is the second farm attack in as many weeks in the Hardap region.

Hardap police deputy commissioner Joseph Gaeseb said it is suspected that three people overpowered the farmer on Thursday night when he returned to his farmhouse, which is situated about two kilometres from the Hoodia Hunting Farm in the Kalkrand area.

Gaeseb said the three suspects, who are still at large, tied the farmer’s hands behind his back and gagged his mouth and nose with adhesive tape after they overpowered him.

“The adhesive tape around his nose and mouth may have caused the suffocation which led to the farmer’s death,” said Gaeseb.
