Farm attacks are getting more frequent in Namibia

Mr. Jan Vermeulen (65) of the farm Sandvlakte is the third elderly farmer involved in a farm attack since the beginning of the year.

According to the police spokesman, Inspector Slogan Matheus, Vermeulen of the farm Sakdvlakte, located 70-km from Aranos, was brutally awoken by robbers that entered his house on February 13, 2015 at about 23:30.
The thieves cut open the zinc roof, climbed through the ceiling and gained access to the house. They tied up the owner and stole his double cab truck, N$ 20 000 in cash, a 7.65 mm pistol and other electronic equipment.

Police recovered the vehicle early Saturday morning where the thieves had left it six kilometers outside of Stampriet. They are still at large.

Apart from Vermeulen Mr. Acker von Moltke was brutally assaulted and robbed in January at his farm outside Witvlei while Mr. Gernot Zander was attacked the previous week in the Hochfeld area.

Another four incidents of robberies were reported to the police, including where a man (56) and his wife were detained in their home on Maltahöhe by armed robbers. The incident occurred February 12, 2015 at 21:00.

The suspects detained the couple with two pistols and tied their hands behind their backs with shoelaces and electrical cables. The robbers stole jewelry, money and cellphones. In monetary value amounts to approximately N$ 57 000.

The suspects were caught on February 13, 2015 about 03:30 at a roadblock between Rehoboth and Windhoek . The pistols and most of the items were found in the vehicle.
