South African and Lesotho national jailed for fake SA money

Maseru – A South African citizen and a Lesotho national were on Monday this week slapped with a five-year jail term each by the Magistrate’s Court after finding them guilty of possession of R9, 800 in counterfeit money.

The two men – Teboho Mohapi and Itumeleng Lesesa, were on July 7 nabbed by the Maseru Border Post Police after buying petrol worth M850 with the fake cash at a local filing station.

Mohapi, 27, of Marguard in the Free State Province and Lesesa, 46, of Mokhotlong were last week hauled before the Maseru Magistrate’s Court where they were denied bail.

Both men this week pleaded guilty as charged when they appeared before Magistrate Ntai Mojaji.

They were however released on a M2, 000 fine each, after pledging to reimburse the M650 they had swindled through paying for the fuel with the fake money.

They further pledged to pay a sum of M1, 000 to the same business for the inconvenienced caused…
