Police in the small town of Shashe in north-eastern Botswana have arrested a Zimbabwean illegal immigrant for the illegal possession of a set of four forged arrival and departure stamps for the Ramogkwebana and Plumtree border posts in Botswana and Zimbabwe.

According to the Maun-based weekly paper Ngami Times, the 38-year-old man was arrested during follow-up investigations after the interrogation of a Zimbabwean national bearing a passport with forged immigration department stamps which purported to show that she had exited Zimbabwe through Plumtree border post and entered Botswana legally through the Ramogkwebana border post.

Botswana Police Services (BPS) Station Commander for Maun Superintendent Peter Gochela said the man had confessed that he had for some time been using the forged stamps to fraudulently extend the stay of fellow Zimbabwean illegal immigrants in Botswana. He has since been charged with forgery, while police investigations are continuing.
