Uganda Defense Forces dispatched additional soldiers to Somalia

The Uganda Peoples Defense Forces dispatched additional 1,440 soldiers to serve in Somalia under the African Union Somalia Mission (AMISOM).

Henry Abbo deputy army spokesman has told the local media that the contingent will replace battle group 11 plus.

“They are also replacing battle group 11 plus, who have already completed their 12-month tour of duty,” He said

“On arrival, they shall be conducting military work, especially fighting against Somali Al-Shabaab militants,” He added.

Abbo said they may also be called upon to conduct some police work during their stay to boost security.

“The fresh deployment is intended “to help boost the AMISOM and the Somali government plan to build capacity for the Somali security forces.” He said.
