Kisumu – A member of the Kisumu County Assembly (MCA) in Kenya, Jacktone Onunga, is pushing for a motion to bar the selling of coffins near hospitals.
Onunga argued that the presence of coffins next to hospitals induced fear in patients, as it made them feel half-dead.
However, according to Standard, coffin sellers expressed dissatisfaction with the proposal and accused Onunga of plotting to kick them out of business.
They said that selling coffins did not mean they celebrated death, and called on the leader to focus on passing “serious motions”.
But Onunga maintained that he had nothing against coffin sellers, noting that he only wanted to help restore “sanity” within the city and major hospitals, The Star reported.
