Kenya’s Deputy President: Get Lamu attackers ‘dead or alive’

LAMU, Kenya – Deputy President William Ruto has visited the scene of Saturday night attacks in Lamu and Tana River counties where 21 people were killed.

Ruto who walked in bushy paths to the homes of the victims in Mareranda village witnessed the gory scene which was littered with bodies of the victims most of whose hands had been tied behind before being killed.

The Deputy President had earlier in the morning visited Gamba police station in the Tana Delta which was also attacked on Saturday night and a suspected ring leader of the recent Mpeketoni killings released by the raiders.

He condoled with the bereaved families and assured them that the government will beef up security in the area to protect their lives and property.

Ruto expressed dismay at the senseless loss of human lives and instructed the Inspector General of police David Kimaiyo to ensure that the perpetrators of the killings are quickly arrested and charged.

He said: “We must arrest the attackers. The IG, county commander, the OCPD must arrest the attackers dead or alive. We cannot condone this act.”…
