Djibouti get free underground water from Ethiopia

Ethiopian legislators have ratified an agreement that will see neighbouring Djibouti drawing underground water from the country’s territory free of charge.

Last year on January 20, 2013 an agreement was made between Development minister Sufian Ahmed, and Djibouti’s Economy and Finance minister Ilyas Moussa Dawaleh.

Even though the parliament approved the plan on Thursday, debates had been made on what the Ethiopia has to gain by giving free water to Djibouti.

The accord gives all right to Djibouti to draw 103,000 metric cubes of underground water everyday for the next 30 years…
