wo suspects were fatally wounded and multiple unlicensed firearms and stolen vehicles were recovered following a shootout with law enforcement on June 8, 2026, as part of an ongoing provincial crackdown on aggravated robbery and hijackings.

Acting on intelligence regarding suspects linked to the hijacking of trucks and courier vehicles, a multi-agency law enforcement team spotted a suspect vehicle in Boksburg. When officers attempted to intercept the vehicle, the suspects fled, initiating a high-speed chase that culminated in an exchange of gunfire.

The suspects’ vehicle eventually came to a standstill near an informal settlement in Reiger Park. During the incident, two suspects were fatally wounded inside the vehicle, while two others fled on foot into the informal settlement.

No police officers were injured during the shootout. However, one police vehicle sustained damage to its windscreen from the gunfire. The involved officers are scheduled to undergo a mandatory debriefing with the Employee Health and Wellness unit.

At the scene of the shootout, police recovered two unlicensed firearms and the suspects’ Mazda vehicle.

Following the incident, further investigations led the team to a residential property in Germiston, which is believed to be a safe house used by the suspects. During a search of the property, officers recovered a Chevrolet Captiva SUV—which was confirmed to have been stolen in connection with a robbery case in Booysens—along with several false registration number plates.

Authorities have launched further investigations to link the suspects and the recovered vehicles to other criminal activities across the province.
