Empire Protection Service responded to a serious cash-in-transit robbery in Kwa Mashu, Durban

Serious cash-in-transit robbery in Kwa Mashu

Empire Protection Service received an alert to a cash-in-transit heist in progress in Kwa Mashu, Durban.

Members of Empire Protection Service were dispatched and are currently standing off at the heist that occurred on Nyala Road in Kwa Mashu with a G4S cash van that was bombed.

According to reports from the scene, as the cash van was traveling along Nyala Road, two vehicles cornered the truck and opened fire.

During the attack, the suspects planted 4 explosive charges on the truck, disarmed the driver, forcibly removing them from the vehicle.

The bombs were then charged causing significant damage to the truck and nearby dwellings.

Debris from the explosion scattered many meters away from the scene.

The suspects unfortunately fled the scene making away with no cash from the cash van.

The road has been closed as SAPS and DPCI investigate the case further.
