Robbery and murder, one of four suspects arrested, Upington

Hilton Siko, a 20-year-old male, who is one of four suspects alleged to be involved in a murder case, was arrested in Paballelo on Tuesday 10 March 2020. Siko made a brief appearance at the Upington Magistrates Court on 11 March 2020, and will remain in custody until his bail hearing later this month.

The incident took place at about 01:30 on Monday morning 9 March 2020, when two friends on their way home from a local tavern were robbed in King Street. The one friend complied with the demands of the robbers while the other resisted. The latter was stabbed to death while his friend fled to the police station to report the matter.

The Provincial Commissioner of the Northern Cape, Lieutenant General Risimatsi Peter Shivuri lauded the police for the swift arrest of the suspect. He added that the police will do everything in their power to rid our communities from criminals and put them behind bars.

Further investigations into the case continues.
