Police continue their fight against crime to strengthen partnership with the communities they are serving. Two men arrested for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition in Mandalay, Mitchell’s Plain,
To mark such a positive restoration of the partnership and trust between the police and members of the community when, yesterday at about 14:00, members attached to Lentegeur police station responded to a tip-off from the community of an illegal firearm in Hermes Road, Mandalay, Mitchell’s Plain.
Fitting the description of a male suspect with a firearm, police tactically approached him in Hermes Road. Upon searching the man members confiscated a 9mm Star pistol, a magazine and 9mm live ammunition, and arrested the 25 year old suspect for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
At the same time, while busy with the 25 year old suspect other members of Lentegeur SAPS spotted another man just further down the road . Upon searching this man they confiscated an imitation 9mm pistol from him. The pistol looks, feels and even has the weight of a real firearm. Police arrested the 27-year old male suspect for the possession of an imitation firearm.
These two suspects are due to make their appearance in the Mitchell’s Magistrate’s Court soon on charges relating to the Firearms and Ammunition Act. The police investigation continues.
The cluster commander of Mitchells Plain, Major General Gregory Goss says police will continue clamping down on crime and the perpetrators thereof. Police will maintain their zero tolerance approach in the combating and investigation of crime. He commended his members for a job well done as well as the community for their involvement in reporting crime and criminals.
