Man arrested by Worcester police for perjury

On 16 February 2017 a 42-year-old man reported an armed robbery case at the Worcester police station. He reported that he had been robbed of R17 000-00 by unidentified robbers, at gunpoint. During the interview, the man gave confusing stories which raised the suspicion of the police officers. They then went to conduct an investigation on the truck he was driving.

The truck was found to contain the same amount he alleged to have been stolen from him while he was being gun-pointed by robbers. The complainant was arrested immediately and the money was confiscated by the police.

The suspect appeared in the Worcester Magistrate’s Court today, 17 February 2017, on charges relating to perjury and defeating the ends of justice. The case has been postponed to 23 March 2017.
