When Johan Swanepoel tried to flee, four suspects pelted him with stones and assaulted him with pipes, hitting him across his back. It was on Sunday February 26 around 09H30 on his farm situated in Dorsfontein, Oudtshoorn district that a sudden attack against him occurred.

On Tuesday around 15H00 Swanepoel received a telephone call informing him that his three vehicles, including other property were on fire.

Swanepoel is convinced that he knows who the man responsible for dropping off the four suspects is and claims this man is angry about a confrontation over neighborhood work. Swanepoel is also convinced the attack and fire are interrelated.

Swanepoel grabbed a few clothes and headed for town, saying that he could not stay on the farm while his life is in danger.

Forensic investigators are combing the area for clues to establish how the fire started, and a special trained dog unit from Port Elizabeth was brought to the scene in the hope of identifying the flammable substances used.
