Police officer shot during Soweto ATM bombing

A policeman was shot and wounded by a group of men who bombed an ATM in Soweto on Tuesday morning, Gauteng police said.

Officers on patrol in Dobsonville came under fire when they went to investigate an ATM bombing in Elias Motsoaledi Street around 01:00, Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said.

The 28-year-old constable was shot in the foot and taken to a local hospital. The suspects got away with an undisclosed amount of money taken from the ATM.

Several cartridges of high-calibre weapons were found at the scene.
