A savage farm attack took place on the night of 8 September 2021, at 20:00, in Kortfontein between Koster and Derby in the North West province of South Africa. Chris Barnard and his wife Hesta were overpowered in their home by three attackers. The attack lasted four hours.
The couple were severely assaulted and tortured by the attackers.
Chris was severely assaulted and also beaten with a wheel spanner and a whip. His wife Hesta was burnt with a hot iron and also badly assaulted, the attackers also cut off some of her hair with a knife.
The attackers ransacked the home during the four hour period whilst continually brutalizing the couple.
The attackers fled the scene at about midnight with the couple’s bakkie, electrical equipment and other household items.
Hesta managed to call for help and the farm watch and other role players responded to assist. Both Chris and Hesta were admitted to hospital with severe injuries.
Police are investigating but there have been no arrests.
